Pet Care: What To Do If Your Dog Or Cat Eats Tainted Pet Food (Part 1)

There are many concerns today about poisoned pet food - so pet owners are naturally worried about their family pet, and if they may be affected. We can ask ourselves, what can be done about our pets?

You should be ready to find immediate attention when you see any problems. In the situation with the contaminated cat or dog food, the main problem is kidney failure. Kidney failure in pets is permanent, and so the sooner you treat it the better. With a major health problem like this, early detection is vital - but of course that’s the case for any dog health problem.

If your cat or dog’s food is one of the suspected brand, quickly get rid of it. Take care that your pet cannot dig it out of the trash (or animals outside the house when it’s disposed of). You may be able to return product to the store if it’s unopened for a refund, where possible.

Self examining your cat or dog for yourself is a good step. For instance, watch if they they walk ok, without limping, check your pet’s fur, searching for changes like hair loss, is there any unusual discharge from their eyes or nose, look for foul smells, and also check other change of their appearance. Of course, not everything will be completely fine with your pet, so pay careful attention to any changes, as these may be a warning of a growing situation.
