Pet Care: Dog And Cat Food Manufacturers Paying For Their Contaminated Products (Part 1)
Dogs and cats in North America have experienced serious problems, including death, seizures, kidney failure, loss of appetite, and other symptoms as a result of eating tainted petfood. The result has been a recall of millions of food items.
While there is uncertainty as to the cause, the toxins in the pet foods were identified, and the producer has voluntarily recalled the pet foods.
Class action suits are now being prepared in this case for this company and others. In one lawsuit, 2 Manitoba plaintiffs are suing for the death of their pets, a cat and several dogs, after eating the recalled products.
While Menu appears to be experiencing the brunt of the legalities, other companies are involved as well. Royal Canin, (Canada), based in Guelph, is being sued for about fifty million dollars for the contaminated food. However, in this case the contamination is excessive Vitamin D, which can be dangerous to cats and dogs in large does. And so while the symptoms appear to be similar to the other products, the actual reason is quite different.
