A Quick Guide To Grooming A Pet Cat (Part 1)
|
Start brushing your pet while it’s still a kitten so it will get used to the treatment. Maintain a cheerful tone and reward your pet with a goodie to keep the grooming pleasant.
Use a soft brush and brush in the direction that the hair grows so as not to irritate your cat’s skin. It is recommended that long-haired cats be groomed nearly daily while shorthaired cats can get by with two or so brushings each week.
Take care at the ear area as cats have sensitive ears. Working slowly will prevent the comb from clogging up too quickly and slowing you down.
Start clipping your cat’s nails while it’s still young. Don’t use ordinary clippers. Invest in a specialized pair of nail clippers for cats that are shaped for cutting the curve of the nails. Keep the sessions short and brief. Do a single paw at a time. Gently press on the inside of the paw to help extend the nails.
Then smoothly clip just the end. This is important because cats have a vein that goes through their nail. It might be seen if the cat’s nail is not opaque.
