Legal Issues With Tainted Pet Food (Part 1)

A great many of people are upset, shocked, and concerned by the tainted petfood scare. Now they are fighting back with class action lawsuits and legal claims.

Pets in both Canada and the United States have suffered from serious issues, including seizures, death, loss of appetite, kidney failure, and many other symptoms as a result of eating poisoned petfood. This has resulted in a recall of millions of food items.

Despite some uncertainty as to the cause, the contaminants in the foods have been identified, and one producer, Menu Foods, has voluntarily recalled the pet foods.

Class action suits are now being prepared in this case for this company and others. In one class action, two Manitoba plaintiffs are suing over the death of several dogs and a cat, after eating the recalled food.

While Menu seems to be experiencing the majority of the legal actions, other companies are involved as well. Royal Canin, (Canada), based in is being sued for about fifty million dollars for the contaminated food. However, in this case the problem is excessive Vitamin D, which is dangerous to dogs and cats in large does. And so while the symptoms seem to be similar to the other products, the underlying reason is very different.
