Childproof Your Cat Or Dog (Part 1)

Many can think back to growing up with a childhood dog or cat. Kids get along well together. With these tips, your pet can be safe around your children, and the children can watch out for actions that is bad for your pet.

Many types of dogs and pups have a fine attitude around kids, and take a bit of horse play without reacting aggressively. Sadly, this is not the case with cats. Especially with younger ones, playing with or picking up the cat often results in bites or scratches. If you are anticipating visits from little tykes, you should try to keep them away from each other whenever you can. And if you have yet to make a decision about a cat or dog for the household, you may need to really evaluate whether a cat is the right choice.

If the small ones are visitors, one way for pet and children to mix well is by some outdoor activities, like catch, taking the dog or cat for a run or jog, walking the dog when he needs to go out, or other things. These can teach small ones the responsibility of taking care of a dog or cat.

Small ones, both in the family or dropping by, must learn how to handle their dog or cat. They need to be told it’s not a plaything, and that it requires gentleness like any other living thing. Tugging, slapping, hitting, pulling, or other obnoxious behavior must not be allowed, and you will need some form of punishment to show the young one how serious this is.
