How To Simply Groom A Cat (Part 1)
|
Start brushing your cat while it is still a kitten so that it will get used to the grooming. Maintain a cheerful tone and reward your cat with a goodie to make the experience pleasant.
Use a soft brush and brush in the direction of the hair growth so as not to irritate your cat’s skin. It’s suggested that long-haired cats be combed almost every day while short haired cats can get by with a couple of combings a week.
Remember to take care at the ear area because cats have very sensitive ears. Working slowly will help keep the brush from jamming up too quickly and slowing you down.
Begin clipping your cat’s nails while it’s still young. Don’t use household clippers. Invest in a proper pair of nail clippers for cats that are shaped for trimming the curve of their nails. Keep sessions brief. Do only a single paw each time, and gently press on the inside of the paw to help show the nails.
Then quickly clip just the end. This is crucial because cats have a vein in their nail. It may be seen if the cat’s nail is not opaque.
