For owners that love their pets, making the pet food on their own can be a nice alternative. While not as simple as store-bought food, it is a great way to better control what your cat or dog is eating, and improve their nutrition.
Humans, dogs, cats,, and every other animal have specific nutritional requirements. Although prepared pet food is simple to use, it might not be the best option in all cases.
Many dog and cat foods are not made for the pet’s requirements first, but expense first. This means often using less expensive and poorer quality materials. For example, many pet foods include vegetable matter as filler (like the wheat gluten that was the problem in the pet food crisis of early 2007). Although this can lower costs, it’s not the familiar source of protein pets are designed for – meat.
Although it’s possible for dogs can live without actual meat, cats cannot. Various specific nutrients are required by cats, and are found in meat. However, unless you are willing to do a great deal of research into requirements, and carefully monitor your pet’s dining habits, you will need to ensure there’s sufficient meat in their diet.
