How To Groom Your Pet Dog (Part 1)
|
Ideally, you should start when your dog is still a pup. You may have to keep each session brief to begin with but remember to keep to a regular schedule.
Always use a gentle but firm manner and voice. It might help at the start to give your pet dog a massage until she settles down for you to commence grooming.
It might also be appropriate to give your pet a small treat at the end of every session, rewarding good behavior.
Bathing a dog requires some care. Most dogs remain shy of getting soaped up. Make sure to prepare everything ahead of time and have all your items handy as you might only get one shot at it! Make sure the container matches the dog’s size. Use a mild temperature bath and a soap that will not irritate the skin. Be careful not to get water in his ears or around the eyes. These are delicate places that are prone to infections. Use a kind but firm manner when speaking and coax your pet dog rather than forcing if possible.
Brushing your pet’s teeth will require patience. It’s important to start while he is young. You can begin by using a bit of cloth to rub along the gum line and teeth. In time, you can attach a brush to your finger and add in some dog-flavored toothpaste to help.
