Dog And Cat Food Producers Paying For Their Tainted Products (Part 1)
|
Dogs and cats in North America have experienced serious problems, including seizures, loss of appetite, death, kidney failure, and many other symptoms resulting from eating poisoned pet food. This has resulted in a recall of millions of products.
Although there’s some uncertainty as to the cause, the contaminants in the foods were isolated, and the manufacturer, Menu Foods, has recalled their products.
Class action suits are in motion in this case for this company and others. In one lawsuit, 2 Manitoba plaintiffs are suing Menu Foods for the death of a cat and several puppies, after being fed the recalled food.
Although Menu Foods appears to be experiencing the brunt of the legal actions, other companies are involved as well. Royal Canin, based in Ontario, is being sued for approximately fifty million dollars over tainted food. However, in this case the contamination is too much Vitamin D, which is dangerous to cats and dogs in large enough does. And so while the symptoms seem to be similar to the other foods, the underlying reason is quite different.
