How To Groom Your Pet Cat (Part 1)

It may seem on the surface that cats generally do a perfectly great job of maintaining themselves. However, if we take the time to brush their fur we can do a lot to assist them, and aid promote their fine health, by aiding their circulation and gathering up any excess hair that they might end up swallowing.

Start combing your pet while it’s a kitten so it’ll become used to the treatment. Maintain a cheerful tone and reward your cat with a goodie to make the experience pleasant.

Use a soft brush and brush in the direction that the hair grows so as to avoid irritating your pet’s skin. It’s suggested that long-haired cats be brushed practically every day while short-haired cats can get by with a couple of brushings each week.

Take care around the ears as cats have delicate ears. Working slowly will prevent the brush from jamming up and slowing you down.

Begin clipping your pet’s nails while it is still young. Do not use ordinary clippers. Invest in a specialized pair of nail clippers that are shaped for trimming the curve of their nails. Keep the sessions brief. Do one paw each time. Gently press on the inside of the paw to help show the nails.

Then quickly clip just the end. This is crucial because cats have a vein that goes up into their nail. It might be visible to the eye if the cat’s nail is translucent.
