A Quick Guide To Grooming A Dog (Part 1)

When learning to groom your dog it is crucial to keep in mind that every dog has her own characteristics, and while many will enjoy the experience, others might shy away from the grooming.

Preferably, you should start when your pet is still a puppy. You may want to keep each session brief to begin with but patiently keep to a regular schedule.

Always use a soft yet firm manner and voice. It may help at first to give your pet dog a massage until he calms down for you to start grooming.

It might also be useful to give your pet dog a treat after every grooming, to reward good behavior.

Bathing a dog may require some planning. Many dogs remain shy of the process. Prepare all items ahead of time and have all your items ready as you might only get one shot at it! Ensure the bath matches the dog in size. Use a mild temperature for the bath and a mild soap that will not irritate. Take care not to get water in her ears or around the eyes. These are delicate areas prone to infections. Use a firm manner when speaking and coax your dog rather than forcing if possible.

Cleaning your dog’s teeth will require care. It is important to start while she is a puppy. You can start by using your finger and a bit of cloth to rub along the gums and teeth. In time, you can attach a brush to your finger and add in dog-flavored toothpaste to help.
