Flea Control Tricks (Part 1)

It’s official – your pet is flea-infested. Now what? First, you need to get rid of the fleas to solve the problem permanently. But, while there are many solutions, they are not all equally effective, and they aren’t required in every case. The choice depends on which you need to kill.

Flea collars are an easy to the problem of fleas, but they vary in how effective they are. Some a gas that is fatal for fleas, which means they work best near the neck area, with reduced effectiveness elsewhere on your dog or cat. Other flea collars work by placing the active ingredient into your pet’s tissues (absorbed from the collar), that is poisonous to fleas. This collar is much more effective than the other sort, but involves your dog or cat absorbing flea chemicals over a long period, which owners may want to avoid. In all cases, be careful to not reduce its effectiveness by using it wrongly, for instance getting it wet (if your cat or dog often goes into the water).

One option to help your dog or cat is with tablets. These oral forms affect the egg, not the adult. By preventing the eggs from hatching, the cycle of life is ended. However, this means you’ll still need to remove the adults from your pet.
