An Easy Guide To Training A Pet Cat (Part 1)
|
Most cat owners realistically aren’t looking for a circus cat trained to jump through hoops. They will be satisfied just if the litter box is used well and the furniture is left alone.
Accordingly, it’s good to realize that cats learn well through experience. This may require an owner to exercise patience, in order to build up cause and effect. This means that if they experience a good thing they are more likely to repeat it. And the reverse is true if the encounter was not pleasant. So whatever there’s good behavior (like clawing the pet scratching post rather than your furniture), you’ll want to encourage that with a good reward.
Whether it is bad or good behavior, your cat will learn it by this method of immediate response. Delaying a punishment or reward will only confuse him. For instance, if a cat is fed each and every time it pesters you, that will encourage the behavior. So it is important to evaluate your reactions properly.
