Is Your House Safe From Your Cat Or Dog? (Part 1)

If you own a dog or a cat (or both), ensuring your house is safe for them is important. Guarding your dog or cat is easy, with just a few rules.

You also have to be alert as your pet goes into certain areas of the home. For instance, you probably won’t want them to go into the garage, because there are too many possible dangers (such as antifreeze or oil spills on the floor). Cabinets or closets with poisons must also be placed off-limits, perhaps with child proof locks.

Pets are interested and curious about the objects they discover (like people). But curiosity can be a problem. For instance, delicate figurines and objects, delicate objects (like vases on small tables), objects on higher shelves, and other objects are an accident just waiting to occur. Remember, if it is easy to bump into it or knock it over, it is too possible for a jumping cat or running dog to hit it, and the end result is something damaged.

Even ordinary items can be dangerous. For example, drapery cords are easy to tangle in, especially for cats. Plastic bags have to be put away so your cat or dog won’t play in them and get stuck. And small objects like curios and toys can pose a problem if the animal tries to gnaw at them. Parts may break off, or they might ingest something.
