How To Painlessly Groom Your Dog (Part 1)

When learning to groom your dog keep in mind that every dog has her or his own preferences, and while many will enjoy the grooming, others might shy away from the grooming.

Preferably, you should start when your dog is still small. You may want to keep the sessions short at first but remember to keep to a schedule.

Always use a gentle but firm voice and manner. It might help at the start to just give your dog a massage till she settles down enough for you to start grooming.

It may also be appropriate to give your dog a reward after every grooming, to reward good behavior.

Bathing a dog requires some care. Many dogs remain shy of the process. Prepare everything ahead of time and have all your items ready as you may only get one shot at it! Ensure the container matches the dog’s size. Use a reasonable temperature for the bath and a mild soap that will not irritate. Take care not to get any water in his ears or near the eyes. Those are delicate places prone to infections. Use a kind but firm manner when talking and coax your pet dog rather than forcing if possible.

Brushing your pet’s teeth will require care. It is important to start while she is young. You can begin by using your finger with a bit of coarse cloth to rub along the gums and teeth. In time, you can attach a brush to your finger and use some dog flavored toothpaste to help.
