An Easy Guide To Training A Cat (Part 1)

Cats are marvelous animals with a unique style of their own. If you’ve chosen a cat as a pet you most likely already accept that discipling and training them will require special effort. You’ll need to some extent to adapt to your pet’s unique personality traits.

Most cat owners aren’t looking to have a cat ready to jump through hoops. They’ll be satisfied just if the litterbox is used properly and all the furnishings are left intact.

Accordingly, it is good to understand that cats learn by experiencing. This may require an owner to be patient, in order to build up cause and effect. This means that if they encounter something good they are more likely to repeat it. And the reverse is true if the experience was not pleasant. So whatever there’s good behavior (like using the pet scratching post instead of your furniture), you’ll want to encourage that with a reward, perhaps a treat each time.

Whether it is bad or good behavior, your cat will learn it by this method of immediate response. Delaying a punishment or reward will only confuse her. As an example, if a cat is used to being fed each and every time it pesters you, that’ll encourage the habit. So it’s important to gage your reactions appropriately.
