What To Do If Your Dog or Cat Has Eaten Poison Petfood (Part 1)

With the current concern regarding poisoned dog and cat food, dog or cat owners are certainly worried for their loved pet, and if they might be affected. So we can ask, can anything can be done about our pet?

It’s important that you get immediate help when you notice any problem. In the situation with contaminated cat or dog food, the leading danger is kidney damage. Kidney damage is permanent, and this means the earlier you can treat it the better. For a major health problem like this, early detection is vital – but of course that’s the case for any cat health issue.

Examining your dog or cat by yourself is a first step. For instance, check your pet’s fur, looking for changes like hair loss, is there any discharge from their eyes or nose, watch if they they walk ok (no limping), look for foul odors, and also check any other change of their appearance. Of course, not everything will likely be perfect with your cat or dog, so pay careful attention to any changes, as these may be a warning of a growing problem.

Key is to note that your dog or cat likely will have visible signs of illness well before they become serious or life-threatening. Watch for differences in appetite, drinking, their mood, urination, overall health, defecation, or any other normal aspect of their day to day life.
