Dog And Cat Food Manufacturers Paying For Their Contaminated Products (Part 1)
|
Dogs and cats in both Canada and the United States have suffered through serious issues, such as kidney failure, death, loss of appetite, seizures, and other symptoms resulting from eating contaminated petfood. This has resulted in a recall of millions of food items.
Although there is some uncertainty as to the exact cause of the problem, the contaminants in the pet foods have been identified, and one producer has recalled the pet foods.
Lawyers are now preparing class action suits for this company and others. In one lawsuit, 2 Manitoba (Canada) plaintiffs are suing Menu Foods for the death of their pets, a cat and several puppies, after being fed the recalled food.
Although Menu Foods seems to be experiencing the majority of the legal actions, there are others affected as well. Royal Canin, Canada, based in Guelph, is being sued for around fifty million dollars for the tainted food. In this case however, the contamination is too much Vitamin D, which can be harmful to cats and dogs in large enough does. So while the symptoms appear to be similar to the other products, the underlying reason is different.
