How To Easily Groom Your Cat (Part 1)

It could seem initially that cats generally do a fine job of maintaining themselves. But if we take the time to brush their coats we can assist them, and also help encourage their overall good health, by aiding their blood circulation and cleaning up excess hair, that they may end up swallowing.

Begin brushing your cat while it is still a kitten so that it will get used to the attention. Use a loving tone and reward your pet with a goodie to keep the grooming pleasant.

Always use a soft comb and brush in the direction of the hair growth so as not to irritate your cat’s skin. It is recommended that long haired cats be brushed nearly daily while short-haired cats can get by with two or so combings a week.

Take care around the ears as cats have delicate ears. Working carefully will prevent the brush from jamming up and slowing you down.

Begin clipping your pet’s nails while it’s still young. Don’t use ordinary clippers. Buy a proper pair of nail clippers for cats that are designed for cutting the curve of the nails. Keep the sessions brief. Do only one paw each time, and gently press on the paw to help show the nails.

Then quickly clip the end. This is important because cats have a vein that runs up into their nail. It might be visible if the nail is not too opaque.
