What Is In Your Pet’s Food? (Part 2)

The petfood industry has an acronym describing this ‘other’ meat – 4D, standing for diseased, dead, dying, disabled, all of which are not allowed in our food, but is ok for pet food.

In preparing animals for our eating, better pieces are removed. What’s left is usable, but is often not labeled as such, instead being called byproducts. This can include lungs, ligaments, spleens, feet, blood, bones, unborn babies, heads, livers, intestines, fat trimmings, and other parts.

It is your choice to decide if these foods is important in what you give your pets, and whether you wish to change. By paying attention to the ingredients on labels, and investigating the petfood manufacturers will help you decide if the meals you give your cat or dog is a meal you’re content with, or if you might want to change your favorite pet’s menu.
