Choosing Your Pet Friend (Part 2)

Will your choice be ‘high maintenance’? Some pets need a great deal more care than others. For example, poodles will require special grooming. Other breeds have health issues such as Dalmatians with hip problems, which may make care awkward over time.

Is a loving dog your goal? Some breeds are normally quite affectionate, but other breeds are more self-absorbed. Depending on your emotional needs or the time you have available to attend to them, you may want a dog that is more independent, or more needy or loyal to you.

What are you getting a dog for? If you are avid hunter, then you will want to pick a breed that is ideal for that. Dogs that are bred especially for hunting include hounds, pointers, retrievers, and trackers. So whether go outdoors a lot, you stay at home, it will help decide the kind of pet you’ll bring into your home.

Are there any rules locally? In an apartment or condo there might be standards regarding breeds or sizes you may have. This can limit your choices.

So no matter how you pick your dog, rest assured the care you provide them will be rewarded by them, and expect a long and happy relationship!
