How To Easily Train Your Cat (Part 1)

Cats are marvelous pets with a distinct style of their own. If you have chosen a cat you most likely already accept that training and disciplining them requires some careful thought. You will also need to some extent to understand and adapt to your pet’s personality traits.

Most cat owners aren’t looking for a circus cat ready to jump through hoops. They will be satisfied if the litterbox is used properly and all the furniture is left alone.

Accordingly, it is good to realize that cats learn through experience. This might require an owner to be patient, in order to build up cause and effect. In other words, if they encounter a good thing they are more likely to repeat it. Also, the reverse is true if the encounter was unpleasant. So whatever there’s good behavior (like scratching the scratching post instead of your furniture!), you’ll want to encourage that with a good reward.

Whether it’s bad or good behavior, your cat will learn by this method of ‘immediate’ response. Delaying a punishment or reward will only confuse him. For example, if a cat is fed each and every time it pesters you, that’ll reinforce the behavior. So it is important to evaluate your reactions properly.

Training your pet to use the litterbox is something that should start when they are young. Remember that cats do love a fresh litter box. You must do your share to make it a pleasant experience. It’s been noticed that if the box is not cleaned regularly, but everywhere else in the house is clean, then your cat may head for the clean areas away from its box, such as the corner of a lovely rug.
