A Quick Guide To Grooming A Dog (Part 1)
|
Ideally, you should begin when your pet is still a puppy. You may want to keep the sessions brief to begin with but patiently keep to a regular schedule.
Always use a soft but firm manner and voice. It may help at the beginning to give your pet a massage till he settles down for you to start grooming.
It might also be appropriate to give your pet dog a treat at the end of every grooming session, rewarding good behavior.
Bathing a dog requires some planning. Most dogs are a little shy of the process. Make sure to prepare everything in advance and have all your items ready as you may only get a single shot at it. Ensure the container matches the dog’s size. Use a reasonable temperature water and a soap that won’t irritate the skin. Take care not to get any water in his ears or near the eyes. These are delicate areas prone to infections. Use a firm manner when speaking and coax your pet dog rather than forcing if possible.
Cleaning your pet’s teeth will require patience. It is important to start while he is young. You can start by using a bit of coarse cloth to rub along the teeth and gum line. In time, you could attach a small brush to your finger and use dog flavored toothpaste to help.
