In 1977 a group of kennel operators founded what is now named the A.B.K.A., or American Boarding Kennel Association to look towards providing the highest standards in pet care. Today its membership is nearly 1,600 kennels in the U.S. and Canada.
While selecting a shelter for your companion pet, it’s a great idea to find out if they are a current member of this Association.
A tip in choosing a kennel is to request of them testimonials from past clients. Praise from a past client is one of the best proofs of good service and care.
Your veterinarian would also be a great source of advice on what may be a good kennel that is OK for your cat or dog.
However, without a doubt you’ll need to visit and inspect the kennel for yourself to see first-hand what they are like.
Some important observations to make include:
Are exercise and rest areas reasonable isolated from other pets?
Are they ready to handle medical problems, and how?
