Are You Boarding Your Pet? What To Watch For (Part 2)

Does the area smell and look clean?

Is it a secure area that would stop your pet from wandering away and possibly looking for you?

What is are the provisions for clean drinking water and adequate food?

Does the appearance and conduct of the kennel’s personnel inspire confidence in their training?

Is there good temperature control, ventilation, sufficient light, and a quality environment?

What are the kennel’s guidelines regarding parasite control and immunizations?

For felines, is the area secured for their protection and safety?

It’s good to remember that some kennels may limit contact where the pets are housed in. This can be to ease the tension for some of the animals who may react adversely to visitors. In any case, they should provide a window or viewing port for potential clients to check the conditions of their pets. Also keep in mind features like all the dogs having adequate space to run around in. Or that cats have enough room to stretch and feel far enough from other cats.

Feel free to ask questions about their rules in an emergency. A boarding kennel with high standards should be ready to answer any questions that you may have. They’ll also be able to show the written agreement that explains what their responsibilities and your rights are. This should help clarify any misunderstandings.
