Your Favorite Pet Has Fleas - How Can You Remove Of Them? (Part 1)

It’s official - your pet has fleas. Now what? You need to remove the fleas to solve the problem permanently. Although there are many solutions, they are not all equally effective, and they aren’t necessary in every case. The choice depends on what you need to control.

One option to clean up your pet is with a tablet. Oral forms usually affect the egg, but not the adult. But by stopping the eggs from hatching, the cycle of flea life is ended. But this means you will still have to remove the adults from your pet (such as with a flea dip).

Flea dips or shampoos are very good at eliminating fleas. The big problem is actually getting the cat or dog into the bath (especially for cat owners)! The shampoo must be applied properly to work. But when used correctly, the shampoo is effective, and will leave almost no chemical residue on your cat or dog. This plus is also a liability because there is no long-term protection from the bath, and you must combine it with other measures to totally protect your pet from future infestations.

Collars are a simple solution to the problem of fleas, but they vary in how effective they are. Some a gas that is poisonous to fleas, and so are most effective near the neck, with reduced potency on other parts of your pet. Other collars work by transferring a chemical into your pet’s fatty tissues (by contact with the collar), that is fatal for fleas. This brand of collar is more effective, but it means your dog or cat absorbing flea toxins over a long term period, which some may want to avoid. In all cases, be careful to not reduce its effectiveness by misusing it, for instance by getting it wet.
