A Quick Guide To Grooming A Cat (Part 1)
Start brushing your cat while it’s a kitten so that it will become used to the treatment. Use a loving tone and reward your pet with a goody to make the experience enjoyable.
Always use a soft brush and brush in the direction of the hair growth so as not to irritate your pet’s skin. It’s recommended that longhaired cats be groomed nearly daily while shorthaired cats can get by with two or so brushings each week.
Remember to take care around the ear area as cats have very delicate ears. Working carefully will help keep the brush from clogging up and slowing you down.
Start clipping your cat’s nails while it’s still young. Do not use ordinary clippers. Buy a specialized pair of nail clippers that are designed for trimming the curve of their nails. Keep the sessions brief. Do a single paw at a time. Gently press on the paw to help extend the nails.
Then briefly cut the tip. This is crucial because cats have a vein in their nail. It might be visible to the eye if the cat’s nail is translucent enough.
