What Is Inside Your Cat And Dog Food? (Part 2)

In the pet food industry, there is a name describing this varied meat – four dee, standing for disabled, dead, dying, diseased, all of which are illegal to include in human foods, but allowed in pet food.

In preparing animals for our consumption, the quality meat pieces are removed. What’s left is available to use, but is often not labeled individually, instead being called byproducts. This term can include blood, unborn babies, spleens, bones, livers, intestines, ligaments, lungs, heads, feet, fat trimmings, and various other parts.

The use of by-products provides extra protein in the food, and raises the animal content, but is an inferior food for cats and dogs to eat.

Ultimately, it is your choice to decide if what makes up these ingredients is significant in what you give your pets, and if you wish a change. Paying careful attention to the ingredients on labels, and investigating the pet food companies will help you figure out if the meals you give your pet is food you’re content with, or whether you want to change your favorite pet’s menu.
