How To Simply Groom Your Dog (Part 1)

When learning to groom your pet it is crucial to keep in mind that each pet has his own characteristics, and while many will enjoy the experience, others might shy away from being touched.

Ideally, you should begin when your pet dog is still a puppy. You may want to keep each session brief to begin with but patiently keep to a regular schedule.

Always use a gentle but firm voice and manner. It might help at the start to just give your dog a massage till he settles down enough for you to begin grooming.

It might also be valuable to give your dog a small treat at the end of every grooming session, to reward good behavior.

Bathing a dog may require some care. Most dogs remain a little shy of getting soaped up. Prepare all items in advance and have all your equipment handy as you may only get one shot at it. Make sure the bath matches the dog in size. Use a reasonable temperature bath and a mild soap that will not irritate. Take care not to get any water in his ears or around the eyes. Those are sensitive places that are prone to infections. Use a firm manner when speaking and coax your dog rather than forcing if possible.

Cleaning your pet’s teeth may require patience. It is important to start while she is young. You can begin by using your finger with a bit of cloth to rub along the gums and teeth. In time, you can attach a small brush to your finger and use some dog flavored toothpaste to help.
