How To Simply Groom Your Cat (Part 1)

It may appear at first that cats generally do a perfectly fine job of maintaining themselves. But if we take the time to brush their fur we can assist them, and also help encourage their good health, by aiding their circulation and collecting any excess hair that they might end up swallowing.

Begin combing your cat while it is still a kitten so that it will become used to the attention. Keep a loving tone and reward your cat with a goody to make the experience enjoyable.

Use a soft brush and brush in the direction of the hair growth so as not to irritate your cat’s skin. It is recommended that long haired cats be brushed nearly every day while short haired cats can get by with a couple of combings a week.

Remember to take care around the ears because cats have sensitive ears. Working carefully will help keep the brush from jamming up too quickly and getting you bogged down.

Begin clipping your pet’s nails while it’s still young. Don’t use ordinary clippers. Buy a specialized pair of clippers that are designed for trimming the curve of the nails. Keep the sessions short and quick. Do only one paw at a time, and gently press on the inside of the paw to help show the nails.

Then briefly cut just the tip. This is crucial since cats have a vein in their nail. It may be visible to the eye if the nail is not too opaque.
