How To Simply Train Your Cat (Part 1)
|
Most cat owners realistically aren’t looking to have a cat ready to jump through hoops. They’ll be satisfied if the litterbox is used properly and all the furniture is left intact.
Accordingly, it is good to realize that cats learn by experiencing. This might require an owner to exercise patience, to build a pattern of cause and effect. This means that if they experience something good they are likely to repeat it. Also, the reverse is true if the encounter was unpleasant. So whatever there’s good behavior (like scratching the scratching post instead of your furniture), you will want to reinforce that with a good reward each time.
Whether it’s bad or good behavior, your cat will learn it by this method of immediate response. Delaying a punishment or reward will only confuse her. For example, if a cat is used to being fed every time it pesters you, that’ll reinforce the behavior. So it is important to evaluate your reactions properly.
